CBS, NBC sets return dates

For CBS, new episodes of Two and a Half Men and CSI: Miami resume next month, while it will not bring back The Unit, Shark, or Cane for the rest of the season (and maybe not ever for the latter show), while NBC will have original episodes of My Name Is Earl, The Office, 30 Rock, Law & Order and […]

Sun-Times editor steps down

Editor Cheryl L. Reed (who is African-American) resigns after endorsements regarding Barack Obama and John McCain were rewritten by people outside the newspaper who are “white men”. And on a night before a major election. Coincidence? Or Chicago politics as usual? And before the political hacks start trolling here… oh yeah… that’s right. Yours truly doesn’t talk about Chicago politics. […]

Gumbel sucked as much as game did

The play-by-play of last night’s Bears-Redskins game on the NFL Network (broadcast locally on My Network TV affiliate WPWR-TV) was about as bad as the play on the field. Bryant “Kermit the Frog” Gumbel was quite awful, as usual. Analyst Cris Collinsworth was sharp, and delivered the best line of the night, summing up the Bears: “There’s professional football and […]

The 2007 T Dog Media Blog Turkey Awards

With the Pumpkin Pie Awards for Excellence Welcome to the second annual T Dog Media Blog Turkey Awards. Once again, we’re here to serve up the disasters in media in 2007. I have nineteen turkeys to hand out… so let’s get gobbling! And this year’s awards go to… – The Chicago Bears. A Super Bowl hangover this year. And especially Rex […]

Bears out, Patriots in

As expected, NBC has dumped the Bears-Seahawks game from Sunday Night Football on November 18 for what else? The undefeated New England Patriots against some team that will lose against them. I guess NBC doesn’t want another sinking ship on its schedule (it already has Heroes.) Bears-Seahawks has been rescheduled for 3:15 p.m. (CT) on Fox.

"Heroes" and the Writer’s Strike

James Hibberd of TV Week talks about both, and how they relate to each other. Of course, the recent shelving of the Heroes spin-off may have something to do with the program’s lackluster second season more than anything else. Entertainment Weekly said Heroes is struggling because of sloppy writing and “myriad worldwide locales that all look like the backlot of […]

"Heroes" spin-off shelved; "Samantha Who?" picked up for full season

– NBC has shelved plans to launch a spin-off of the TV series Heroes indefinitely. The move comes as a looming writers’ strike plans to wreak havoc with the networks’ schedules. The toast of the 2006-07 season, both Heroes and Ugly Betty are not having great sophomore seasons, with both programs down in the ratings from last year and both […]

They are who we thought they were!

Aliens in America is exactly who we thought they were – a ratings loser. Meanwhile, Dancing With the Stars seems to be the only show deservingly labeled a winner (in the ratings dept. only), while it’s yucksville for the rest of prime-time with the exception of the Padres-Rockies tiebreaker game, a true classic. Other observations: – Heroes is down in […]

Reap the rewards

Tonight’s pick to click (you at home select yours): –Reaper. This is a show that is check-out worthy. It’s a dramedy (yes, it’s a term we haven’t used since the Molly Dodd days) about a big-box employee who works for the Devil. Literally. You can read more in Maureen Ryan’s review of the show here. Should be a hoot. Meanwhile, […]

Comic-Con: not just for comic book fans anymore

Television producers and studios are finding that the annual comic book convention held in San Diego called Comic-Con is a great marketing tool for launching their new fall television shows (take that, Promax), especially if the shows are a sci-fi or fan frenzy nature (i.e. Lost, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica…) This year’s convention has more than 100 TV-related projects that will […]

National Bingo Night to return? WTF?

Latest B&C TV critics poll gives top honors to Sopranos, Heroes, and Office; National Bingo Night voted worst show. Despite the fact that National Bingo Night bombed in the ratings, ABC is giving the moribund show another chance, this time stripping the show five nights a week, beginning December 17, for that week only. ABC officials claim that the shows’ […]
