Fox wins last-minute stay of execution on YouTubeTV
Short-term extension to last through Friday
The Wednesday 4 p.m. (CT) deadline came and went with Fox channels remaining on YouTubeTV as the two parties agreed to a short-term extension that lasts until Friday.
Update: We’ve reached a short-term extension with Fox to prevent disruption to our subscribers while we work on a new agreement. We’re committed to advocating on behalf of our members and will keep you posted on our progress. https://t.co/EM5jhU9v5l https://t.co/3haWhOYKZT

This means that viewers won’t lose their channels owned by Fox Corporation – for now. But it signals that negotiations are moving in the right direction, and a new deal could be announced by the weekend.
Fox Corporation owns Fox, Fox News, Fox Weather, FS1, FS2, Fox Business, Fox Deportes, and 30 television stations that carry Fox and MyNetworkTV programming, including Fox 32 and Fox Chicago Plus in Chicago, with nine out of the top ten markets, including New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas. On Monday afternoon, Fox announced it was at an impasse with YouTubeTV over a new carriage deal, and gave a deadline of 4 p.m. today.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr weighed in on X yesterday, but singled out YouTubeTV owner Google to get a deal done with Fox, citing the upcoming football season, which kicks off on Fox Friday with Baylor and Auburn, and a big game Saturday between Texas and Ohio State.
NFL on Fox coverage begins the following week, with a regional state of singleheader games.
YouTubeTV isn’t under any FCC jurisdiction as it is a virtual multiple video programming distributor (vMVPD) – or virtual provider for short as viewers receive their channels through streaming. But broadcasters have been urging the agency to include them with traditional cable and satellite providers so they can be regulated.
This isn’t the first time YouTubeTV has been in a dispute with a major media conglomerate. In February, Paramount nearly pulled its channels from the virtual provider, including CBS but reached a last-minute deal. In December 2021, Disney pulled its channels, including ABC for two days in another carriage dispute, doing so right in the middle of a Timberwolves-Lakers game on ESPN.
YouTubeTV is America’s largest virtual provider, with nearly ten million subscribers, ahead of Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, and the streaming version of DirecTV.
