Grand opening, Grand closing: Streetz 95.1 shutters
Wraps up a four-year run
As first reported by Radio Insight, Core Radio Group is pulling the plug on the Streetz Hip-Hop format on 95.1 FM at the end of the day on Wednesday (April 30.)
“There were a number of factors in the decision to discontinue in Chicago”, said Core Radio Group CEO Steve Hegewood. “However, I am very grateful to the commitment from the entire staff and the opportunity to serve our listeners and clients over the past 4 years.”
Core leased the W236CF translator from Windy City Broadcasting, and was fed by TelevisaUnivision’s WOJO-HD2.
Launched in April 2021, Streetz 95.1 featured the syndicated Young Joc And The Streetz Morning Takeover, hosted by the Love And Hip-Hop: Atlanta star, and local personality Trey the Chokilt Jok, who is a Power 92 alum. The format replaced Clubsteppin’ 95.1, which moved online after spending less than three years on the frequency.
Streetz 95.1 had to compete in a crowded urban music marketplace with iHeartMedia’s WGCI and V103, Audacy’s 104.3 Jams, plus Crawford’s Power 92 and Soul 106.3 – not to mention free app streams and paid services such as SiriusXM, Spotify, and YouTube Music. The station did not rank in Nielsen’s March 2025 PPM report.
It is not immediately known what would take the place of Streetz on 95.1, though Core will continue to operate the brand in several Southern cities, including Atlanta and Norfolk, Va.
