Abe Kanan out at Rock 95.5

Not able to come to terms on a new contract

IHeartMedia’s Rock 95.5 producer/on-air personality Abe Kanan have parted ways after failing to come to terms on a new conract, as first reported by Radio Insight.

Kanan was executive producer of Angi Taylor’s morning show and also was her on-air sidekick. Kanan joined Rock 95.5 a month after the station launched its Rock format on September 3, 2020, coming over from Cumulus’ WNDX-FM in Indianapolis. During his ten-month run there, he also voice-tracked some fill-in spots at sister Alternative station WKQX here. He was laid off from Cumulus in the summer of 2020, when companies were cutting talent due to the financial effects of the pandemic.

“After negotiating with Rock 95.5, we could not come to an agreement on a new contract”, said Kanan in a statement posted on his social media accounts. “I loved every minute of working at this station and with Angi. Angi is the best. There are too many people to mention, but I worked with many wonderful people. Our listeners are amazing. Thanks for spending your mornings with me for the past three years. Thank you to everyone. My compliments.”

Since its launch, Rock 95.5 achieved mixed ratings results, hovering around a two share in the Nielsen PPM ratings. The station’s playlist has also come under criticism by some for its less-than-imaginative playlist.
