NBC 5 launches new real estate show, “The Listing”

Features luxury residences for sale in the Chicago area

NBC 5 (NBC-owned WMAQ-TV) launched a new show this weekend called The Listing

Airing Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m., Chicago viewers get an inside look at the hottest residential and luxury properties in the area, with “a deep, visual dive into the most-coveted listings in Chicago and the city’s surrounding suburbs, not to mention an inside look at breathtaking properties in Michigan, Wisconsin and Indiana.” The Listing plans to highlight three properties per episode in this half-hour show.

“I was born and raised in Chicago, and I’m constantly reminded of the beauty and history woven into this city,” said host Coutney Hall, a CLTV alum who currently hosts the fifteen-minute entertainment strip Chicago Today on NBC 5 at 11:45 a.m. (11:30 a.m. as a half-hour on Fridays.) “I’ve watched my mom build a successful career in design and luxury real estate, which has always had a lasting impression on me. ‘The Listing’ is my way of showcasing not just stunning residences, but also the diverse neighborhoods, rich histories, architecture, and design that make Chicago and its surrounding suburbs unlike anywhere else in the country.”

Hall will be joined by esteemed luxury real estate broker Carrie McCormick of Carrie McCormick Luxury Group, who’ll provide tips for buyers, sellers, and homeowners, and Rate (formerly Guaranteed Rate) Managing Director Ben Cohen, who is a real estate expert and provides insight on the market. Both firms, Chicago Title & Trust, and the Chicago Architecture Center, partner with The Listing.

Each episode will feature a unique “theme” pointed out in the episode title, including Skyline Views, South Side Mansions, Famously-Owned, Lakefront Luxury, and Baller Brownstones. The Listing will concurrently stream on NBC 5’s YouTube channel, NBCChicago.com, and subsequently available on its 24/7 FAST channel and behind-the-scenes coverage on the station’s social media accounts.

Real estate-type lifestyle shows – especially those featuring luxury homes have grown in popularity over the last fifteen years as they attract affluent audiences that are valuable to advertisers. NBC itself had pioneered the concept with Open House, a weekly program showcasing luxury homes in New York and Los Angeles hosted by Sara Gore, airing in weekend syndication through NBCUniversal Syndication Studios (at 11 p.m. Sundays on NBC 5) and overnights Sunday mornings on NBC. Open House is a part of LXTV, a channel NBC bought in 2008, featuring lifestyle programming targeted to upscale younger viewers. At one point, LXTV had its own multicast channel known as LX Home, which operated from May 2020 to August 2024.

Similar programs dot the cable TV and streaming landscape, but are more “reality TV”-like in nature as they focus on drama instead of selling anyone a home, such as Bravo’s Million Dollar Listing and Netflix’s Million Dollar Beach House

This is the second local weekly program NBC 5 has introduced in the last year, in an era where it’s been harder for non-sports weekend programming to gain traction. Last November, NBC 5 aired Pang and Poochie Eat Chicago on Sunday nights for four weeks and plans to return sometime this year.
