93.9 Lite FM to launch Christmas music Tuesday

Earliest launch in station history

With Halloween in the rear view mirror, 93.9 Lite FM is wasting no time in launching its Holly Jolly Format.

Beginning Tuesday, the iHeartMedia Gold AC station is lunching its popular Christmas music format at 4 p.m. On November 1, this is the earliest launch in its history and becomes the first major-market radio station to do so. The news was posted on social media this morning.

Last year, the Christmas music format launched on November 3.

“We heard our listeners loud and clear, said 93.9 Lite FM Program Director and afternoon host Mick Lee in a statement. “The day after Halloween, listeners are ready to hear Christmas music on 93.9 Lite FM. As we change our colors from orange and black to red and green, Chicagoans will be sure to get in a festive mood with non-stop Holiday music. We can’t wait to make new memories with our listeners and their family in our 22nd year as Chicago’s Christmas music station.”

The format kicks off with a three-hour commercial free block of holiday favorites hosted by station personalities including Melissa Forman and Mick Lee. Listeners can also submit their favorite Holiday songs.

The station has dominated the local ratings with Christmas music for several years, Even without the Holly Jolly format, WLIT has been near the top of the ratings mountain in the past year, including a second-place finish in July and a first-place tie with Hubbard’s The Drive in September. WLIT is the highest-rated station in iHeartMedia’s cluster, with or without Christmas music.
