Leah Rahimi joins NBC 5 full-time as sports anchor

Gives up full-time position as 670 The Score co-host but remains to co-host on Wednesdays

Appearing on NBC 5/WMAQ-TV’s Sports Sunday has now led Leah Rahimi to a full-time position handling sports anchor duties, beginning next month, becoming the first full-time female sports anchor in the history of the station.

She’ll appear on the station’s 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts Monday thru Thursday with Jeff Blanzy handling the same duties on Friday. Rahimi will continue to appear on the station’s Sports Sunday show though her co-anchor is now Mike Berman, who is taking over weekend sports anchoring duties.

This means she is exiting her role as co-host of Dan Bernstein’s late morning weekday show on WSCR-AM/670 The Score, though she’ll return to making appearances on the station on Wednesdays, as she’s done in the past. Last year, Rahimi became the first woman to co-host a sports talk radio show on a full-time basis in the Chicago market.

Rahimi’s full-time promotion comes full circle. She was hired as full-time anchor and host at the former Comcast SportsNet Chicago (now NBC Sports Chicago) in 2015, but was laid-off in 2020 due to companywide cutbacks at parent NBCUniversal, a division of Comcast. In November, she was hired to co-anchor NBC 5’s Sports Sunday show with Blanzy. Now, she’s back as a sports anchor only this time at NBC 5.

NBC 5 and NBC Sports Chicago share NBCUniversal as a corporate parent.

As for Bernstein and 670 The Score – with the exception of the aforementioned  Wednesdays, he’s doing his show on a solo basis for now
