ABC at TCA

ABC’s session gets very testy ABC entertainment chief Steve McPherson was forced to reveal the big news that he was holding for fans of Comic-Con down the road in San Diego on Thursday (thanks to prodding by a lot of pissed-off TV critics:) that Harold Perrineau was reviving his role as Michael on Lost. Meanwhile, the ABC television executive took […]

Senate passes indecency bill

Too bad that bill didn’t save this woman’s life at 104th and Morgan in Chicago last night. And who says Congress has its priorities straight? To them, it’s a greater crime to say f*** on the air than someone getting shot and/or killed in the ‘hood. Hasn’t Blair Holt’s family suffered enough?

The gloves are off in a battle over the videotape that cost a local television reporter her job. According to the Sun-Times’ Rob Feder, the general managers of the stations involved- Joe Ahern of CBS-owned WBBM-TV and Larry Wert of NBC-owned WMAQ-TV were involved in a shouting match over the phone Tuesday, regarding WBBM’s decision to air a “misleading and […]

Hit the road, Jack

WCBS-FM is expected to switch back to oldies next week, if this article in the New York Daily News is any indication. This rights a wrong made two years ago when it dumped the longtime oldies format for the adult hits format known as Jack-FM. Ratings for WCBS-FM dropped like a rock and has not recovered. WCBS-FM became an oldies […]

Toss it or recycle it?

St. Sabina Church, whose pastor is Rev. Michael Pflager, has begun a billboard campaign to urge residents in the Chatham, Englewood, and Auburn Gresham neighborhoods on the South Side to get rid of negative hip-hop music which demeans women, contains foul language, and promotes a violent lifestyle. Artists listed on the billboard (with the names printed on a trash can) […]

Zakk Tyler out at the Loop

WLUP-FM, or The Loop, has dumped afternoon personality Zakk Tyler after two years of underperforming ratings in the afternoon time slot. A rotating wheel of guest jocks will fill in until a new afternoon show is ready. A lot of people have criticized Tyler for his obvious lack of talent. Who knew?

CD trump downloads

But this is an online poll from the people who brought you Dewey defeats Truman, so I wouldn’t read too much into it. As for the comments section, note that the posters are likely over 50 – the only people who pretty much read this blog anyway.

The price is wrong, so you must be fixed

To coincide with Bob Barker’s retirement from The Price Is Right next month, The Sun-Times reprinted an interview in today’s editions with Robert Feder conducting an interview with him in New York on August 6, 1985. In this article, Feder bought items from a grocery store and played a pricing game on ol’ Bob. He missed every one of them […]

WABC-TV in New York was knocked off the air for a time last night after a fire broke out at the station before the 11 p.m. newscast and didn’t resume until 5 a.m. The station’s early-morning newscasts were broadcast from what looked like a cramped office. The station’s newsroom and some equipment were damaged by fire, smoke and water damage. […]

He Gone?

Hate to interrupt your Memorial Day, but here’s something more interesting than the ants getting into your potato salad: Reports are circulating that NBC has canned its entertainment president Kevin Reilly and is being replaced by former William Morris agent Ben Silverman. This comes as NBC is stuck in fourth place and its prime-time fall schedule could make it fifth […]

My Name Is Earl

Earl Cole became the first African-American male and the second African-American overall (Vecepia Towery in Survivor: Marquesas was the first) to win the million dollar prize on the Fiji edition of Survivor last night, beating out two other African-American contestants – Cassandra and Andria “Dreamz” Heard. It seemed a few members of the jury didn’t want to give any of […]
