High Court to hear indecency case

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear the fleeting profanities case, with pits the major networks against the FCC. So we’ll finally see if we truly live in the home of the free and the brave or if we live in China.

South Bend PBS station may go all-digital

WNIT, a PBS station in South Bend, is asking the FCC permission to broadcast only in digital after the station’s broken-down analog transmitter sputtered out for good on Wednesday. The transmitter broke down last month, when one of two tubes which fed the station’s audio and video feeds stopped working. The feed was rerouted to the station’s other tube, which […]

FCC winning war on indecency?

If this article in TV Week is any indication, the major broadcast networks are in for more audience erosion – but read my latest Think Tank and I’ll give you even more reasons why they are. Meanwhile, the relentless assault on the First Amendment continues from the FCC and PTC groups, though its too bad the government (and the PTC) […]

T Dog’s Think Tank: Thank you, Jim

Last week, two programs reminded us how much the words “vertical integration” meant to the TV business. The possible renewals of tired sitcoms According to Jim and Scrubs. Both come from the same studio (ABC Studios) and both are being considered for pickups by ABC next season, despite the fact both have drawn less and less viewers over the last […]

Ladies and Gentlemen – the 1,000th post.

The T Dog Media Blog has reached its 1,000th post. And in those one thousand posts, what has we learned? Well… – Jim Belushi still has no talent whatsoever. – Chicago celebrities in Hollywood can be just as much as a jerk as anyone else – except the one who won the Oscar last year. – If you a guy, […]

As well as every other ABC affiliate in the Central and Mountain time zone for airing a episode of NYPD Blue on Feb. 25, 2003 that contained partial nudity. The fine being proposed is $1.4 million. Parents Television Council erupts again

Over two indecency incidents: Diane Keaton’s F-bomb on ABC’s Good Morning America and people giving an obscene gesture (aired live on the Eastern Time Zone only) on CBS’ 60 Minutes Sunday Night. Meanwhile, in a welcome bit of news (of sort), FCC Chairman Kevin Martin says it might be difficult to take action against ABC affiliates over the accidental airing […]

The Excellent 10 of 2007 and more

From #10 to #1, the best TV shows of 2007… 10) Chuck (NBC) Computer geek who works at a big-box is also a spy. Great concept. 9) Mad Men (AMC). Realistic look at ad agency business in the 1960’s, far more accurate than what you saw on Bewitched. On Mad Men, nobody becomes impotent from spells cast by Endora. 8) […]

The Toilet Bowl of 2007

There were a lot of forgettable moments in media in 2007, and we have them right here… First, let’s start off with the year’s worst TV, from #10 to #1: 10) The O’Reilly Factor (Fox News): This show still sucks. 9) Around the Horn (ESPN) Ditto. 8. Chicago Sports (various channels) What a great year for Chicago Sports! The Cubs […]

Propaganda alley

It’s too bad I already decided on who gets the WPIMTW award this week, but there’s always next week: – The Prick Tofu Crud (a.k.a the Parents Television Council) is at it again, this time complaining about an episode of NBC’s Las Vegas that aired at 9 p.m. (Central) on Nov. 30 regarding a scene involving a stripper. They are […]

Worst Person in Media This Week – 12/06/2007

This was a long time coming. This week’s award goes to FCC Commissioner Kevin Martin. Why, you may ask? Pursing a personal agenda…. The 70/70 market-threshold position to regulate cable… The continuing war on indecency… Making a decision on Tribune even before the FCC hearings here in Chicago last September… A person who’s nothing but a puppet for the Bush […]
